Chiavetta’s Celebrating Decades at the Fair

July 18, 2013. The unmistakable taste & smell of a Chiavetta’s chicken dinner has been an Erie County Fair tradition since 1957. In the early 1950’s, poultry farmers Thomas and Eleanor Chiavetta began barbecuing chicken utilizing a recipe they learned through the Erie County Farm & Home Center. After modifying the recipe with their own “Italian twist,” they began catering firemen’s picnics and church banquets before setting up business at the Fair. During 2013, Chiavetta’s will cook and serve almost 3500 dinners a day at its stand located near the Firemen’s Building & Slade Park.
